The Walther PPQ is often overlooked, and it’s a seriously underrated gun. Walther’s handguns fit a very standard model for concealed carry weapons, and the company offers a variety of options and upgrades. The PPQ is slightly over the 3” barrel size of many compact handguns, so not all mini holsters will fit this pistol.
We’ve put together this review of the best Walther PPQ Holsters, and we’ll let you know which we think is the best option for most buyers.
Walther PPQs are fantastic choices for concealed carry weapons and self defense in general. Many gunowners really like the grip of these handguns, and the travel distance of the trigger is very short and quick to snap back. You’ll want a holster that places the grip in the perfect position for grabbing quickly – the style and function of the PPQ will take you the rest of the way. Many OWB holsters will work well for this firearm, as it’s compact enough to stay well concealed under a shirt. Having it available outside of the waistband will make it easier to draw and utilize your Walther PPQ.
Materials – The IMI Polymer Retention Roto Holster for Walther M1 and M2 is made entirely of durable, polymer material. It’s designed to rotate a full 360 degree around the waist, so it can be worn in any style. It is an outside the waistband holster, which attaches to the waist with a wide polymer clip. The clip is the length of the holster, so it won’t slip over the waistband, and it has two special rounded hooks for gripping to the wearer’s pants. It can be adjusted to any cant by one simple screw. There is a side release button, which can be utilized silently for a stealthy draw. The IMI Polymer Retention Roto Holster for Walther M1 and M2 can be purchased in black or tan.
Performance – The IMI Polymer Retention Roto Holster for Walther M1 and M2 is a solid outside of waistband holster that comes at a friendly price. The polymer belt clip is ergonomically shaped to fit against your waist, and it’s nice and smooth, so it shouldn’t be too uncomfortable to wear during the day. We like the silent release button on the side, but we can see that being too easy to press if you lean up against something or bump into somebody. This holster is shaped well, so your PPQ won’t rock back and forth during travel. It comes in black or tan, but we don’t like the tan color very much – we think “nude” is a better name for that shade.
What we say – The IMI Polymer Retention Roto Holster for Walther M2 costs just under $40 online, making it the cheapest option within this review. It’s not a bad holster by any means, but it’s best for first-time buyers.
- Cheapest option
- Rotates 360 degrees, can be worn any cant
- Silent release button
- Comfortable and stable belt clip
- Release button too exposed
- Tan color is too noticeable

Materials – The DeSantis Thumb Break Scabbard Holster is another outside of waistband holster wich is made of genuine leather. This holster is molded to the shape of your Walther PPQ and has a softly lined inside. There are three slots for attaching to the belt: one of each side and one in the center. Each slot has stitching for reinforcement. There’s a single retention screw at the trigger guard. The DeSantis Thumb Break Scabbard Holster sits high and tight against the waist, and a snap closure thumb break sits atop the very rear of your pistol. It comes in tan or brown, and it can be purchased for left handed or right handed shooters.
Performance – The DeSantis Thumb Break Scabbard Holster is a lovely OWB holster that doesn’t have a chance of budging or sliding around while you wear it. For the record, we are much bigger fans of this tan option than we were of the previous choice in this review. The reinforced stitching is very well done, and your Walther PPQ should stay well protected while holstered. We also like the thumb break, which is the first thing your finger will touch when reaching down to draw your pistol. It’s a little different than most thumb breaks, which are often on the side of holsters. The price for this option varies quite greatly, which can be a little confusing, and that’s our only complaint on this one.
What we say – The second Walther PPQ holster on our lists costs about $60. However, the black option ranges from $50-$90. We just suggest doing a little shopping online before clicking “buy” on the first price you see.
- Made of lined leather
- Reinforced stitching
- Unique thumb break
- Sits high and tight
- Price varies greatly – a little confusing
Materials – The Comp-Tac International Holster is an oldie but a goodie. It is international because it can be made for a wide variety of handguns. This holster is made of superior Kydex and comes in an all black color. Multiple styles of paddles can be purchased for the mounting system, so it can be worn in whichever cant and style you choose. There is room available in the holster for a rail, and there are two retention screws at the trigger guard. The Comp-Tac International Holster can be purchased for left handed or right handed shooters, and it is IDPA and USPSA legal in certain configurations.
Performance – The Comp-Tac International Holster has made it into our reviews on more than one occasion because it can accommodate so many types of handguns. Plus, the overall look is very low profile and is probably one of the most compact OWB holsters available. We like that, despite fitting very well to the Walther PPQ, there is still room for a pistol rail. What we love even more is that you can purchase multiple parts for any configuration you’d like. On that note, it also is a bummer that this holster only includes a mounting system, and you have to buy paddles separately. However, that shouldn’t be a big deal breaker for most buyers.
What we say – The Comp-Tac Walther PPQ holster costs about $65 online. This is a reasonable price, but it won’t include the belt clip.
- Made for a wide variety of handguns
- Can be adjusted for any cant
- IDPA and USPSA legal
- Paddles and belt clips sold separately
Materials – The StealthGearUS Revolution IWB Mini Holster is a really unique piece. The back panel is made of a flexible proprietary polymer material, which bends to the curves of the wearer’s waist. It’s lined with a suede backing, so it’s comfortable to wear. The back panel is also perforated with laser-cut holes to allow plenty of air flow. There should be zero moisture absorbed during wear. The holster has five retention screws, and it is shaped to the Walther PPQ. There is a belt clip on either side of the panel, which also has retention screws. All front facing parts of the StealthGearUSA Revolution IWB Mini Holster have a textured pattern for a good grip during daily activities.
Performance – This Walther PPQ holster has an innovative design, and it actually seem quite similar to Alien Gear’s 3.0 Tuck IWB holster model. We like this one for the laser-cut holes, which helps prevent any sweat build up. Plus, the polymer material is both very flexible and durable against scratches and abrasions. The holster is comfortable to wear, and it fits pretty securely inside the waistband. The suede and smooth belt clips are okay, but the stability of this holster comes from the textured holster and back panel. It’s a worthy product to look into.
What we say – The StealthGearUSA Revolution IWB Mini Holster costs about $70 online. It’s the most expensive option within this review, but it’s still a very good price.
- Flexible back panel with suede lining
- Laser-cut breathable airways
- Textured holster
- Many retention screws
- Most expensive option
Our Favorite Walther PPQ Holster
Our top pick for the best Walther PPQ Holster goes to the DeSantis Thumb Break Scabbard Holster. We actually really like all of the holsters within this review, but we think the size and style of this DeSantis option makes it the best for a Walther PPQ. Although it is an OWB holster, it sits so tightly against the body that it’s still easy to conceal under a shirt. We also like that is rides a little high on the waist, which is good for a more compact handgun such as the PPQ. Aside from those attributes, we love the smell and look of a leather holster. Plus DeSantis puts out very high quality products, so you can expect your investment to last you a long while and to always keep your pistol protected very well. We definitely suggest you look into purchasing the DeSantis Thumb Break Scabbard Holster for your Walther PPQ
