If you’re using your AR 15 rifle for any type of defense, you’ll have to arm yourself with a good tactical AR 15 light. There are many great tactical flashlights on the market that can be used both as an accessory to your weapon as well as a handheld combat tool. Of course, there are loads of options for AR15 lights online, so we’ve done all the dirty work to show you what the best options are out there.
We put together a list of the best tactical AR 15 flashlights that we could find on the market. Later we’ll let you know what we think is the best AR 15 light for the everyday gunowner.
When you’re selecting a tactical flashlight, consider what preferences you’ll have. Do you want your tactical light to be a permanent attachment to your AR 15? Would you rather have a light that’s easy to detach and switch between weapons? What types of light modes do you want for your defense? How much lumen? Is cost a big factor? Make sure to answer these questions for yourself before purchasing the most expensive tactical flashlight, simply for the brand name.
Materials – The LiteXpress Tactical AR 15 Flashlight is an all black light made of strong aluminum. The LED light can last for up to ten hours on a low setting. The maximum setting, at 550 lumens, can last for a straight hour and twenty minutes. This flashlight comes with four other light settings: High, Mid, Quick Flashing, and SOS Flashing. The quick flash setting is for single pulse light, and the SOS mode is for a strobing effect to deter predators. With the battery, which is included, this tactical light weighs under half of a pound. This flashlight also comes with a carrying strap, 3 detachable colored lenses, a Picatinny rail mount and screwdriver.
Performance – The LiteXpress Tactical AR15 Light is a fantastic defensive flashlight for your AR 15, especially for home defense. A flashlight with strobe and pulse light settings is always our favorite because nothing will fend off a home invader in the dark better than a strong white light flashing in their face. This flashlight is also shock proof and waterproof, so it’s a great light to use to navigate through windy or rainy conditions. This flashlight comes with the one Picatinny rail mount, which is good, but we do wish it attached with two rings or some type of additional security. Especially on an AR 15, that could become an issue.
What we say – The LiteXpress Tactical AR15 Light is a great accessory for home and self defense. It’s even great for some professional combat use. You can purchase this flashlight for around $60 online, so it’s a pretty budget friendly investment. It can cover basic needs, and it should easily illuminate every area of a home, even larger rooms. This would also be great for surveying any large outdoor property, as well.

The flashlight lens has a hardened treatment, and the LED light gives off 500 lumens of a cool white illumination to give a crisp contrast at night. At maximum illumination, the battery life can last for seventy five minutes straight. This flashlight can have a constant on mode as well as a pressure switch for pulsing light. It comes with two batteries and a Picatinny rail mount with three rings. With batteries in, this tactical light also weighs under half a pound.
Performance – The Orion Tactical Flashlight for AR15 rifles is at a similar price point as the LiteXpress flashlight, but it has some contrasting features. This one definitely has some pros and cons: this flashlight is far more durable, and the additional rings with the Picatinny mount ensures it should stay secure to the AR 15. On the other hand, it has very basic light modes, the amount of lumens is slightly lower, and it will only last for an hour and fifteen minutes at maximum illumination. We do really like the crispness of this LED light, and it will still cover basic tactical needs.
What we say – The Orion Tactical AR Flashlight also costs only around $60 online. Depending on your needs, this option may meet your requirements more than the previously listed flashlight. We really appreciate the additional mounting rings that come with this light, and it should easily cover basic home defense needs.

It comes with two batteries and a quick detach Rail-Lock system for easy detachment in those split second moments.
Performance – The SureFire X300 Tactical AR15 Flashlight is a very top of the line accessory to your AR 15. We’re most impressed by the Rapid Lock system for easy attachment and quick detachment in intense combat moments. The flashlight is designed for smooth use, which is why we like the ambidextrous features too. We understand that an off-white illumination may be more appealing to the eye, but we feel that that’s against the purpose of a tactical light. We want a blinding white light to fend off predators and home invaders.
What we say – The durable material and professionally designed features put the SureFire X300 AR15 Flashlight at a costly price point. Performance – The Streamlight ProTac AR 15 Tactical Light offers the most lumens of any other flashlight within this review. The C4 LED technology gives off piercing light, and we’re obviously fans of the strobing feature. We did notice there isn’t a single pulse feature like many other tactical lights, but the three settings cover basic illumination needs and the self defense need. We also realize that you’ll need to purchase the proper mounts separately too attach this flashlight to your AR 15. That being said, it’s a very good flashlight in a comfortable price point with strong basic features.
