Amberide IWB KYDEX Holster

Materials – The Amberide IWB Holster outfits itself with 0.08-inch thick Kydex material. Which is both durable and light, making it ideal for everyday use. This holster is waterproof and washable. So you may confidently carry it in any condition. It has a sweat guard that runs the length of the slide to keep your sidearm in pristine condition. Moreover, this holster can withstand both daily use and intense physical encounters. This sturdy holster protects your handgun while allowing discreet and safe carry. It’s also made to fit the S&W SD9VE and SD40VE.

Performance – This holster includes features that allow you to adjust the cant of the 1.5-inch standard belt clip. It includes a Phillips screwdriver for faster draw speeds and better concealment under clothing. In addition, the black powder-coated stainless steel hardware is sturdy and can be adjusted from 0 to 15 degrees. It also has an adjustable retention pressure. You can tighten the retention screw before going for a stroll and loosen it afterward, making this holster adaptable.

What we say – The Amberide IWB Holster is fairly reasonable and provides excellent value. Given the features it offers, it is definitely worth the money. This is ideal for those looking for a holster that’s flexible and comfortable to use. It’s also suitable for concealed carry.

Pros

  • Comfortable to wear
  • With full length sweat guard
  • Adjustable head drawstrings
  • Affordable
Cons
  • The screws may come off easily
UTG Deluxe Commando Belt Holster

UTG Deluxe Commando Belt Holster

Materials – The UTG Deluxe Commando Belt Holster is a conveniently sized outside-the-waistband holster mainly constructed of durable polyester. The main pocket of the OWB holster is shaped to provide a firm barrier between your S&W SD9VE and regular exterior elements that could cause damage. There is a single, buckled clip to provide some retention, and it quickly snaps open when you need to draw your firearm. It’s adjustable to fit multiple types of small caliber pistols. There is also a small, attached pocket with Velcro closure to hold an additional magazine round. A Velcro belt loop attaches the UTG Deluxe Commando Belt Holster to the outside area of the waistband, which is adjustable.

Performance – UTG designed the Commando Belt Holster as a simple solution for someone who wants to carry their Smith and Wesson SD9VE around during daily activities. The polyester and Velcro design is just enough of what the average gun owner needs without going over the top. With that in mind, it is obviously not for any tactical or more professional uses. Keep your SD9VE pistol comfortable and your side while you’re at the range or going for a long car ride. The buckle clip will keep your firearm safely in place throughout the day, and it can be easily manipulated for the occasional instances you may need to draw.

What we say – If you didn’t plan on dropping a lot of cash the UTG might be a good choice. It’s in the lower price range and the cheapest option on our list. Stay comfortable and low profile with this no-hassle belt holster.

Pros
  • Affordable price
  • Best for low expectation carry situation
  • Velcro belt loop adjustable
Cons
  • Not best for fast drawing situations
  • Won’t protect pistol against tactical damage

Blackhawk Serpa Sportster

Blackhawk Serpa Sportster

Materials – The Serpa Sportster is another outside-waistband holster for your Smith and Wesson SD9VE pistol. It offers a graduated level of protection. The all-polymer construction will keep your firearm protected in tactical situations or more strenuous daily activities. There is also a passive retention detent adjustment screw, so you can decide how firmly you want to keep your weapon in place. It also offers an automatic lock release button, so a simple press will allow you to draw your pistol. Upon reholstering, you can hear an audible click to let you know your SD9VE has been retained.

Performance – This holster definitely takes things up to the next level. Similar to the styles of OWB holsters you see worn in the police force or military, you can expect a higher level of protection for your S&W SD9VE. The polymer body is tough and durable, which means your firearm won’t rock back and forth during movement. This is also enforced by the automatic lock and release button, which is a feature we’ve always loved from Blackhawk. The additional retention screw is one more feature that will bring your carrying to the next level. The only downside is that these extra retention features and tougher housing material won’t be as comfortable to wear throughout the day. As a regular citizen, you may find yourself getting uncomfortable with a wide polymer holster.

What we say – The Blackhawk Serpa Sportster is still very affordable and offers great value assuming it’s the kind of holster you are looking for. If you require multiple retention points in an OWB holster, this is the best SD9VE holster for you.

Pros
  • Tough polymer construction
  • Retention screw and lock and release button
  • Audible click upon reholstering
Cons
  • Can be uncomfortable for day-long wear
DeSantis Speed Scabbard Holster

DeSantis Speed Scabbard SD9VE Holster

Materials – The DeSantis Speed Scabbard Holster is a beautifully crafted, leather, OWB holster that is said to fit the S&W SD9VE “like a glove”. The all-leather design is molded to the shape of your pistol, and there is reinforced stitching at the belt slots. Therefore, you shouldn’t experience fraying or worn-out leather. There is also a single retention screw at the trigger guard. While there is no thumb break, the Speed Scabbard Holster sits higher and fits tightly, so the wearer can move about freely and draw quickly when needed. It also comes in either black or tan for right-handed shooters.

Performance – This is a gorgeous-looking holster that greatly compliments a shooter’s appearance. I like the reinforced stitching at the belt slots, as I don’t see that on many standard OWB holsters. Since it attaches at two points on the belt, your S&W SD9VE won’t sag or swing during movement, and your grip will be at a high point on the hip for easy access. The leather material provides smooth draw and reholstering. While it’s not considered low profile, the specially designed molding keeps your pistol close to the body, and it won’t snag on any exterior elements.

What we say – You might have guessed it already, the DeSantis is quite expensive. That being said, considering that it’s made from leather, and will last you quite a while it’s not expensive at all. If you like the feeling of leather and you want something a little fancier, the DeSantis is an ideal option.

Pros
  • Beautiful leather design
  • Retention screw and reinforced stitching
  • Molded design
  • Sits high and tight
Cons
  • Very expensive

Our Favorite Smith and Wesson SD9VE Holster

I think the best holster for a Smith and Wesson SD9VE pistol is the Amberide IWB KYDEX Holster Fit: S&W SD9 VE & SD40 VE. For most everyday civilians, we think an inside of the waistband holster is likely preferred since we usually don’t want to announce to the public that we have a weapon on our persons. This is one of the best IWB holsters because of the Kydex material, which will seriously stand up to anything. Whether it’s a hot day, or you have just been wearing your S&W SD9VE holster for a long amount of time, the Kydex will be resistant against sweat and dirt that can build up. It is also adjustable, allowing you to customize which fit is best for you.

  1. Appreciate the article. Finding a normal holster is hard enough; try finding a non-nylon holster for an SD9VE with a Crimson Trace laser!

  2. I chose the Serpa after reading this article. The negative press should have been mentioned because I didn’t understand the safety issues.
