It’s very possible you haven’t heard much about the Ruger 9e. It’s a fairly standard handgun, but it often gets outshined by its similar friends in the SR series. It can be a little tricky or confusing to find the right accessories that will fit this model, so we’ve compiled a list of the best Ruger 9e accessories on the market. We’ll let you know which we think is the best choice for most gunowners at the end of the article.
The Ruger 9e has a few great qualities to it, which we think leave it heavily underrated. The grip includes a reversible backstrap, which allows the user to switch between a curved grip or a flat grip.
The front sight is designed with an angled edge to improve your draw out of a holster. This means the front sight won’t catch on to anything or tear the inside lining of a holster either. Where it may be lacking is in the side panels of the grip, which aren’t very textured, and it could use an upgrade with lasers or night sights. We had to sift through many accessories that were originally designed for the SR series so we could find the options that would be perfect to include on your Ruger 9e!
TALON Grips For Ruger
Materials – The wraparound grips from TALON are a patented design. It’s a one piece grip that has been custom cut for whatever particular handgun you’re purchasing it for. The highly textured grip adheres to your pistol, and it stays on through all sorts of use. From drawing to shooting, your grip won’t wear out or become unadhered from the gun. This product can be purchased in a granulated or rubber texture in black, or it can also be purchased as a rubber grip in moss green. They’re only half of a millimeter in thickness, so they won’t increase your palm swell or change your gripping style in any way.
Performance – The TALON Grips can come in handy for the Ruger 9e pistol in particular. What the handgun is lacking is a well textured grip panel. It’s pretty smooth and flat, so many might have their hands slip while shooting. What Ruger does have though is the reversible back panel, and we didn’t want to interfere with that feature by adding a rubber grip that slips over the original grip. That’s why this TALON option is a great idea for anyone who needs to improve their interface with the gun. These wraps are pretty permanent, so make sure you like it before you install it.
What we say – This is the best choice for anyone who doesn’t like the flat, smoother surface of the Ruger 9e’s grip, but they want to utilize the reversible back panel.
- Low cost accessory
- Adds highly textured grip
- Doesn’t increase palm swell
- Difficult to remove adhesive once it’s on
Crimson Trace Rail Master Universal Mount Laser
Materials – If you’re going to choose a laser for your pistol, you really can’t beat Crimson Trace! This highly ergonomically designed and lightweight laser has been built with immense detail for all pistols with a rail under the barrel. Instead of installing over the existing trigger guard, and adding more weight, it takes up as little space as possible. This is a Class III R red laser beam, meaning it’s one of the strongest lasers available for civilian use. It will be best seen at night, but it’s still functional during day light. To turn the laser on, simply use the pressure of your finger on the ambidextrous instinctive activation switch.
Performance – Your Ruger 9e pistol has an accessory rail under the barrel, so why not use it? The small and compact size of the Crimson Trace laser will still allow many holsters to accompany it. Since it doesn’t have extra parts to cover the trigger guard, it’s incredibly lightweight and even easier to install. The laser beam is powerful, and that’s why Crimson Trace’s laser is a little more expensive than many others you may see on the market. It may sound silly, but you’ll want to be a little careful and make sure it’s properly installed so you don’t lose this little guy.
What we say – The Crimson Trace red laser is the best choice for anybody with a little extra cash that wants to utilize their accessory rail. This is a far better option than lasers that install over the original trigger guard.
- Installs on accessory rail instead of trigger guard
- Most powerful laser for civilian use
- Can be used day or night
- Very small and can be easy to lose
Streamlight TLR-4 Tac Light with Laser
Materials – If just a laser isn’t enough for you, then you should get Streamlight’s TLR-4 flashlight and laser combo. This option also attaches to your Ruger 9e’s existing rail under the barrel. Use the ambidextrous on and off switch for the constant on mode or a pulsating, momentary mode. Installation is simple: quickly snap it onto the rail and tighten the single screw into place. You can select between three light modes as well: laser only, illumination only, or both laser and illumination. The mounting system is very versatile, so you should be able to detach it and install it on any other handgun with an accessory rail that you may own!
Performance – Whether for tactical or self defense purposes, a flashlight and laser combination can be very useful to attach to your pistol. With that accessory rail, why not go the whole way and utilize it? We chose Streamlight for similar reasons why we chose Crimson Trace for their laser: Streamlight offers some of the highest quality lights and light/laser combos on the market. Unfortunately, with an attachment like this, you’ll be less likely to have a holster that accommodates it, so keep that in mind. The flashlight portion does stick out from the barrel, so you’ll want to be careful about knocking it against anything.
What we say – Streamlight’s Tac Light with Laser is the best choice for anyone with tactical purposes in mind or when just a laser isn’t enough.
- Easy to install or switch between pistols
- Multiple settings
- Ambidextrous switch
- Harder to find an accommodating holster
Trijicon Ruger HD Night Sight Set
Materials – This wouldn’t be a pistol accessory review without a trusted pair of night sights! After much searching, it’s confirmed that almost any 1911 Novak cut sights can be near-drop-ins for the Ruger 9e. The Trijicon HD Night Sights is a pair of front and rear sights to replace the original, three dot sights on your pistol. There are three tritium inserts included: two in the rear and one in the front. They glow a bright green, which is visible during both daylight and night time. The front tritium insert is surrounded by a neon yellow ring of photo luminescent paint, for a highly contrasting dot that will make your accuracy better. The rear mimics your Ruger’s original rear sight notch shape. The front sight is also designed with a slight angle to maintain the Ruger’s original capability of gliding in and out of holsters.
Performance – Before you become concerned, yes, these night sights will install correctly on your Ruger 9e. They may need a small amount of filing. Obviously, we suggest professional installation from a gunsmith when it comes to night sights. What we like most from Trijicon is that they maintained the angled shape of the front sight, which is exactly like the original front sight on the Ruger 9e. This way, you’re not taking away any of the thoughtful features Ruger designed, and you’re only improving the overall function of the weapon. With a bright green tritium and neon yellow dot, you’ll hit your target every time.
What we say – The Trijicon Ruger Night Sights are the best choice for anyone who may not be interested in a laser and would prefer to acquire their target with a pair of sights that won’t interfere with a holster.
- Bright green tritium inserts
- Maintains shape of original Ruger sights
- Highly visible during any time of day
- Need to be installed by a professional
Our Favorite Ruger 9e Accessory
After much consideration, we came to the conclusion that our favorite accessory for the Ruger 9e was the Crimson Trace Rail Master Universal Mount Laser. Although we also included the flashlight and laser combo from Streamlight, Crimson Trace’s red laser beam is far more powerful, and it’s one of the most powerful overall on the market. It’s also more affordable than any high quality flashlight/laser combo. In the name of self defense, we chose a laser over a combo as well because there are still many holsters that will accommodate your Ruger with the laser attached. That goes for both inside the waistband and outside the waistband holsters. The compact size of the Crimson Trace laser is so lightweight, you’ll barely notice you added anything onto your pistol at all. It’s one of the smartest things you could add to an already practical handgun.
