If inside the waistband and outside the waistband holsters just won’t cut it for you, you may want to consider a tactical fanny pack. No, we’re not suggesting you go full “90’s Dad” (you can leave the long socks and open-toed sandals at home). However, a pack worn around the waist has a lot of convenient features for active people.
We’ve put together this review of the best tactical fanny packs on the market, and we’ll let you know which we think is the best option for most gun owners. Most fanny packs are made of nylon, which is the best soft material for withstanding tough weather conditions. It’s also sturdy enough to hold a lot of weight (such as that from a concealed pistol). If you like to go camping, hunting, or hiking, a tactical fanny pack would be a convenient way to carry a handgun and additional gear, as opposed to constantly readjusting an inside the waistband holster that won’t stop sliding around. This way, you can travel through uneven terrain while keeping your hands free. If you intend to use your pack for hunting, we would suggest finding an option with camouflage patterns. Otherwise, the standard matte black would be the best color to choose.

Creator Tactical Waist Pack

Creator Tactical Waist Pack
Materials – The Creator Tactical Waist Pack is made of durable, 1000D nylon, including both the strap and the body of the product. There are four main pockets: a large center pocket, two side pockets, and an internal back pocket. The exterior of the fanny pack is MOLLE compatible, and it allows for an expansion system to include a water bottle pocket, extra storage, or more webbing. The nylon waist strap is fully adjustable, and it can expand enough to allow the owner to wear the pack across the back. All of the pockets secure shut by means of a zipper, a buckle clip, or Velcro. The Creator Tactical Waist Pack can be purchased in black, brown, CP camouflage, desert digital, digital camo, or multicam.

Performance – We love the amount of space and options offered by Creator. The brand’s Tactical Waist Pack is ergonomically designed to fit around the waist and offer the most usable space both inside and outside. There are plenty of different sized pockets to accommodate survival gear, ammo, accessories, and whatever else you feel you need to bring with you. We also love the variety of webbing and Velcro to attach expansions. We do wish the internal pockets had more compartments, and we’re concerned that it allows for too much weight to be added. If you intend to carry a lot in your tactical fanny pack, we would suggest adding padding to the adjustable strap.

What we say – The Creator Tactical Waist Pack costs just a little $18 online. This is a great product for anyone who needs to carry some larger items on their waist or perhaps someone who is going camping/hiking.

  • Low cost
  • Comes in many colors, offers many expansions
  • Multiple pockets of different sizes
  • Fully adjustable strap
  • Internal pockets lacking compartments

VooDoo Tactical Hide-A-Weapon Fanny Pack

VooDoo Tactical Hide-A-Weapon Fanny Pack
Materials – The VooDoo Tactical Hide-A-Weapon Fanny Pack is an all nylon product that comes in black, coyote, olive drab, and multicam. The main feature of this tactical pack has a large center pocket, which opens to reveal a concealed weapon holster. The concealed weapon holster is ambidextrous and is adjustable to fit all sizes of pistols. The quick pull tabs are made of Velcro. The main pocket has retention straps for holding additional gear, and here are two small side pockets that close with zippers. The VooDoo Tactical Hide-A-Weapon Fanny Pack has a nylon, adjustable strap which closes with a plastic buckle.

Performance – The VooDoo Tactical Hide-A-Weapon Fanny Pack definitely highlights the tactical aspect more than the previous option. The special concealed weapon pocket is a fantastic way to carry your handgun that gives the wearer the element of surprise. The additional storage pockets can hold magazines, a flashlight, or anything else you want to pair with your concealed weapon. The side pockets are a little small, and we wish there was a little more space offered by this VooDoo fanny pack. However, the weight should be evenly distributed across the waist, and the design enhances the secure fit of the entire product.

What we say – The VooDoo Tactical Hide-A-Weapon Fanny Pack costs between $25 and $35 online, depending on which color you purchase it in. Besides the delightful name of this option, this is easily one of the best tactical fanny packs for concealed weapons.

  • Concealed weapon pouch
  • Extra room for storing gear
  • Sturdy nylon strap, adjustable
  • Small pocket space

5.11 Select Carry Pistol Pouch

5.11 Select Carry Pistol Pouch
Materials – The 5.11 Select Carry Pistol Pouch is made of 1050D nylon, and it is available in all black. This model also features a center, front pocket, which opens to reveal a concealed carry weapon holster. The concealed carry holster is ambidextrous, and it is padded. It can fit all sizes of handguns, from compact Rugers to Gen 4 Glocks. There are also elastic bands to hold additional magazines. The front pocket and two side pockets open with zippers, and the concealed carry holster is revealed by pulling the Hot Pull tabs. The nylon strap is fully adjustable and very wide. It closes with a large, plastic buckle clip.

Performance – The 5.11 Select Carry Pistol Pouch is, by far, the most discrete and low profile option within this review. If you want your weapon completely concealed, and you don’t want the public to be aware that you’re carrying, this is the fanny pack for you. While this is not the best fanny pack for carry camping or hunting gear, it’s a good choice for anyone who feels uncertain about wearing IWB holsters. This fanny pack is also padded for comfort, and the adjustable strap is wide enough to distribute weight and friction. This option also has larger side pockets than the previous pack in this review, and we found the concealed weapon easier to access as well.

What we say – The 5.11 Select Carry Pistol Pouch will cost you a little under $40 online. While that may seem like a steeper price for a fanny pack, this is a well-designed option with high quality stitching and materials.

  • Very low profile
  • Easy to access concealed weapon pouch
  • Good sized additional pockets
  • Extra wide nylon strap
  • Not good for carrying bulky gear

Huntvp Military Fanny Pack

Huntvp Military Fanny Pack
Materials – The Huntvp Military Fanny Pack is made of a combination of 900D nylon and canvas. It comes in black, coyote brown, desert camouflage, jungle camouflage, and ACU camouflage. The design is very similar to that of the Creator Tactical Waist Pack, in that is MOLLE compatible for adding expansions. The front pocket is small enough to hold a flashlight or small accessories, and the large internal pocket can hold hiking gear such as a rain poncho, a hunting knife, electronics, etc. The back of this fanny pack has elastic bands that are the perfect size for holding additional rounds for your handgun or rifle.

Performance – The Huntvp Military Fanny Pack is another wonderful option for anyone who is camping, hiking, or hunting. If you need to carry additional ammo and gear, but not enough to warrant use of a large backpack, then this tactical waist pack would be really ideal for you. If you’re concerned about stitching, we did want to point out that this pack is made of lower quality nylon than the other options, but it still has a durable construction. We really like the webbing in the back, and we love the amount of storage this pack offers. While it’s lacking the proper space for a concealed weapon, this product gives you the option for hands free carrying and travel.

What we say – The Huntvp Military Fanny Pack is normally priced at just under $70 – ouch. However, you may be able to catch it online for the sale price of about $20, which is a much more appealing price. If you have a lot of stuff, then this is a good option for you.

  • MOLLE compatible, offers room for expansions
  • Has plenty of room for gear and accessories
  • Elastic bands in back for extra ammo
  • High cost
  • No concealed weapon holster

Our Favorite Tactical Fanny Pack

Our top pick for the best tactical fanny pack goes to the 5.11 Select Carry Pistol Pouch. Our first reason for picking this option is because of the super low profile and discrete look. The appearance would never give away that you’re concealing a weapon. Plus, the internal holster is well padded and the easiest to access quickly. We also like that this option has one of the widest adjustable straps for wearing around the waist. You can hold your handgun and additional accessories without having it sag down the crotch or interfere with walking. You should feel comfortable and safe while sporting the 5.11 Select Carry Pistol Pouch.
