There are probably dozens of parts distributors available to you. Some are nothing more than pushers of old used parts long out of spec, some sell military spec parts from factory over runs and some sell parts from subcontractors. Others sell their own parts and complete rifles. Prices vary from suspicious to reasonable, to way overpriced. Thankfully, there are so many people in the AR15 business, it doesn't take long to find the good ones. Below is a list of businesses I have seen to date. Some I have dealt with. Some I know by name only. This list is not all inclusive as there are just too many businesses to keep track of.

In all things I warn BUYER BEWARE. Always ASK questions. Make a list of questions before you call. Have a good idea of what you would like to change about the basic kit beforehand and how much you think this change should reflect in the final price.

Some items to ask:

• Who manufactures the barrel in the kit?
• What twist rates are available?
• Will they replace one type of part (say an A2 upper for a flat top) at no additional cost?
• Are their upper assemblies assembled or sent as parts?
• Are all the parts of new manufacture or are they surplus?
• What subcontractors are used (if this information is not proprietary)?
• Shipping schedule?
• Return policy on parts that are unsatisfactory?
• Ask if they have any technical support.

These are just a few questions you might cover. The main thing is to have an idea of what you want and have the ability to explain it precisely. Most of the dealers are very willing to help you find the rifle you are looking for. Many will substitute one type of part for another. Most will provide you with some details that will help during assembly.
